The village has many of the famous red brick and Norfolk Stone cottages and all kinds of coastal properties from converted fisherman's huts to substantial beachside homes. There are easy walks through the village back lanes to the beach, and you can walk along the route of the Norfolk Coastal path and the Paston Way, a long distance footpath, which passes through on its way to nearby Cromer. Mundesley is a couple of miles up the coast and the Norfolk Broads are just 6 miles away.

A short distance inland from the coast is Bacton Woods which quite lovely and well managed. A mixture of conifer, mixed woodland and open areas it is a lovely place to visit for a picnic or just walking through the woods . Dogs are very welcome, horses too.

Bacton makes a fantastic base for exploring the North Norfolk area with several RSPB reserves within easy reach, Seal watching at Horsey Gap, National Trust properties, Happisburgh Lighthouse, Cromer Pier, Bewilderwood, and The Poppy Line Steam Railway. There is a swimming pool in the village (available for private hire). Golf Courses, a Cinema, Zoo and Leisure Centre are also all within a short drive.

Bacton-on-sea is famous for its sandy beach. Unspoilt, it is just a beach! There are no shops, no toilets, just plenty of sea and sand! The beach is accessed via steps from the coastal path or there is a wooden ramp found in the middle of the village.

A few minutes’ walk along the seafront will bring you to an excellent pub “The Poachers Pocket”, friendly with a good atmosphere, good food at reasonable prices and it is very dog friendly.
